Court rejects EFCC’s request to arraign ex-Gov Bello without his lawyers

The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, on Friday, declined to allow the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to arraign the immediate past Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, in the absence of his lawyers. Bello was scheduled to enter his plea before trial Justice Emeka Nwite, on another 19-count charge that bordered on his alleged complicity in an N80.2billion fraud. When the matter was called up, none of the lawyers representing the former governor, was in court. Nigerian Army Detains Investigative Journalist, Fisayo Soyombo For Three Days In Port Harcourt

The arrest, which took place three days ago, was confirmed by the Foundation For Investigative Journalism (FIJ) on its official page on Friday morning.   It was gathered that Soyombo’s detention may be linked to his work exposing corruption and smugglers aided by Nigerian Customs Services. Polytechnics lecturers Set To begin strike December 2

Cardinal among the demands is the appointment of a Rector in Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, Imo State without following the due process and in violation of Federal Polytechnics Act. EFCC set to arraign Yahaya Bello again over alleged N80.2bn fraud

Bello, alongside his nephew Ali Bello, and two others—Dauda Suleiman and Abdulsalam Hudu—will appear before Justice Emeka Nwite to face a 19-count charge involving alleged fraud totaling ₦80.2 billion. The EFCC accuses the defendants of money laundering, breach of trust, and misappropriation of public funds. The Yobe State Hisbah Board has destroyed over 170 bottles of alcoholic beverages valued at N450,000 in Gashua, Bade Local Government Area of the state.   It was gathered that the confiscation occurred during a patrol led by Hisbah officials at a local hotel in Gashua.   Meanwhile, a vendor associated with the sales was also arrested and subsequently jailed for contravening the state’s prohibition on alcohol. Sensitive election materials for governorship poll arrive in Ondo.

  Sensitive materials for the Ondo State governorship election, scheduled for Saturday, 16th November 2024, have arrived in Akure, the state capital. The materials were transported by the Nigerian Air Force and have been received by officials of the Central Bank of Nigeria. This was disclosed in a brief message posted on the official X page of the Independent National Electoral Commission on Monday. The message read: “Breaking News! Sensitive materials for the Ondo State governorship election, scheduled for Saturday, 16th November 2024, have arrived in Akure, the state capital, and have been received by officials of the Central Bank of Nigeria. The fire destroyed goods valued to be worth millions of naira. It was gathered that the fire started around 9 pm, engulfing several shops and stores filled with combustible materials. Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), reported that the agency, in collaboration with the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services, responded swiftly to contain the fire.
