Senate Suspends Action on Tax Reforms Bills.

The Senate further instructed its Committee on Finance to stay action on the public hearing pending the time the agitation in the public space was addressed. It further constituted a special committee to meet with the executive arm and work with the Federal Government to resolve the issues surrounding the Tax Reform Bills. This was made known by the Deputy Senate President, Jibrin Barau, who presided during plenary on Wednesday. There has been controversy over the Tax Reform Bills since its introduction to the National Assembly. Retired Military Officers Protest In Abuja Over Non-Payment Of Pensions, Other Entitlements

Retired military personnel under the group of Coalition of Concerned Veterans (CCV) on Wednesday protested over the non-payment of their pensions and other outstanding entitlements in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.  The ex-servicemen who disrupted activities at the Federal Ministry of Finance at the Federal Secretariat with music, displayed banners carrying different inscriptions.  Among other demands by the retired military officers are the non-payment of the 28% increment since January, the three months palliative and N32,000 flat rate added to them since July.  The protesters also highlighted others such as; bulk SDA payments with new template regardless of retirement year, the VFN bill to be reviewed an...

Nigerian Policemen Invade Farotimi's Office, Seizing Staff Devices Before taking Lawyer Away

Operatives of the Nigerian police stormed the Lagos office of human rights lawyer, Dele Farotimi, and seized devices belonging to his staff, whisking him away under questionable circumstances. The footage, seen by SaharaReporters, showed armed officers storming the premises in what has been described as a "Gestapo-style" raid. However, they proceeded to confiscate phones and other gadgets from the office staff before taking Farotimi, who was dressed in white, without presenting any formal invitation or warrant. The Nigeria Bar Association had raised concerns about the legality of the operation, while the association declared that the actions of the police violated due process and constitutional protections. The Republic of South Africa has expressed its interest in collaborating with Nigeria to harness critical minerals, particularly lithium, to drive the green energy transition and support the development of electric vehicles (EV) batteries.
